Progress, Not Perfection

I've been wanting to get a garden going for a long time....first I had an apartment, then my house didn't have the right yard, then we had the right yard but no time, or the rabbits ate all our plants.....yeah, the list goes on.

The year William was born we finally got a garden in but well, we where either at the hospital or too busy to enjoy it (but our garden fairy, my mother, did a fabulous job keeping the weeds out when she came to help with William).  This year we were determined to have a small garden and have time to enjoy it.

Progress April 17th
We actually started with the bed totally overgrown but I slowly (during William's naps) got our front bed cleared out COMPLETELY!

The large section in front of the wooden board is my garden section....the back (closest to the house) is Ben's Mammoth Sunflower area.  We are hoping for a Sunflower privacy screen in front of our front door.

3 hens came by to help that day.
....it's the last time I saw them.
.....I hope the neighborhood possum didn't nab them....

Progress April 25th
The first signs of accomplishment in the bed.
Ben's Sunflowers are starting to sprout!

Our resident Skink (lizard) looking for a girlfriend...
..yep, his head is red, it's gotta
 be mating season ;-)

Progress May 31st

Cayenne & Jalapeno Planted
The Squash, Eggplant and Zucchini arrives
All planted - Look at those Sunflowers!
William is a big helper in the herb garden
William supervises plant watering from his sand pot.

Progress June 1st
Cucumbers love water, so we planted it by the gutter spout.
So far he's happy there.....

My herb garden (I know weird angle).
Sweet Basil, Thai Basil, German Thyme, Cilantro, Lavender and Rosemary.
Ben cleared a charlie brown tree out for me.
I love that my herb garden is by the front door.  Easy access to the kitchen!
Tomatoes looking GREAT!
I think there is a Caprese in my future!
Progress June 4th
Look at those Sunflowers grow!

I'm pretty proud of our progress...now to keep it weeded and watered!
Shouldn't be too difficult with the storms forecasted for this week.

One more bed that we are trying to clear out for Teddy Bear Sunflowers.

We have a lot more work getting our house in order, but are thrilled with our garden progress.....we are moving forward a little at a time.
